I once purchased an encyclopedia on the history of beauty when i was taking an esthetics course in college ( as a hobby) and found this quite interesting. Personally, those who judge beauty only on physical attributes are very shallow. There are so many different types of beauty and every single human on this earth is unique. It is important to see beyond the superficial attributes and admire the differences.
Here is a part of the book that shows how the idea of beauty changed through out the centuries.
Past: ” Kant’s idea of subjectivity of beauty, shifting what is thought of as beautiful to the spectator; it teaches us to prize the diffucult, the discomforting, and the edifying, instead of the lovelly or attractive.”.
Present: By the middle of the twenieth century, beauty had become increasingly a commodity which could be purchased.”
